Sorry for the lack of updates…again…but school has been picking up and I need to get my edumacation!
The days have all blurred together…so I’ll do my best to do a recap.
…
I am now a level 62 Bard…with my Star Necklace…after dragging Mephiston to the Quicksand Caves to kill some annoying Cactuars. Yay! I achieved this new level with an insane EXP gap due to an insane party and a very bad one.
The very bad one happened first. I got to see The Labyrinth of Onzozo for the first time. We had a RDM who barely spoke English that when first invited, had a fully leveled WHM sub but then for some reason turned it to an underleveled BLM sub.
I’m not a big sub person…so this didn’t bother me too much.
But when I realized that this RDM who was supposed to be main healer did not have any way of fixing status ailments such as Paralyze and Silence? This bothered me.
Ah well! The BLM will surely help me!
Nope. The BLM decided to sub RDM too.
…okay.
So I, the Bard had to be the main Paralyna, Silena caster. While singing my songs. For the first time in my short FFXI career, I actually put my foot down when I was being hassled. Normally I just ignore it when a melee is yelling at me for Erase…when I’m already midcast, or a cure, when they’ve already been cured..
But this PLD insisted on harassing “us” for Silena and Paralyna.
After three fights I finally sent him a tell basically telling him to look at the make up of the party. I was the only person who could Paralyna and Silena. If he wanted his damn precious Ballad and other buffs he’d have to understand that being the only person capable of casting these spells, he’d have to go an extra second silenced if I was in the middle of singing the Minuet he had asked for his melees.
He was pretty nice about it. He didn’t realize I was the only person capable of casting the aforementioned spells and apologized for his impatience.
The RDM also didn’t like to keep me refreshed. Normally, it’s not necessary, but after singing Ballads and even wearing my Gaudy Harness, then running and singing Madrigal and Minuet…I no longer have refresh unless I run back and sing Ballad on myself.
So I asked, even with Auto-translate, if this RDM could help me out with a refresh here or there.
…Yeah. That was pointless. Still never really got it.
Barely got any EXP…but something interesting happened during this party.
Our thief nearly, accidentally pulled Ose. He had to do the /sit command to interrupt the pull. I actually got to see that damn cat!

A party that was camping him on the other side of the room then ran like bandits and claimed him. No drop for them *shiku shiku*
After watching the fight our Monk had to leave and he was quickly replaced with a Dark Knight. Dark Knight got to camp then went afk for “two minutes” for a drink.
So we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
15 minutes later our Dark Knight was still AFK. The Japanese thief grew annoyed and left, as did the BLM…but not before he gave me a D2.
Yeah.
—————-
Something I neglect to mention–during this party I was being harassed by a WAR begging me to come party. I did the normal “I’m in a party, it would be rude”, but he wouldn’t quit. He wasn’t horrible or anything…in fact, he amused me, but lucky for him…the party ended 10 minutes later.
So I go back to Whitegate to meet up with this party.. we were going to camp near the tower in…is that the Thickets? Whatever..I still don’t know the new areas too well.
Party Setup: RNG, RNG ,WAR, PLD, SMN, BRD.
…uhm…
Holy CRAP. I’ve never been busier as a bard. When partying with rangers, if they’re eating accuracy food, they tend to beg for double minuet, from my past experience anyway.
So I had to basically….
Sing Ballad on the PLD and the SMN
Run sing double Minuet on the RNGs
Sing Minuet and Madrigal on the WAR and PLD…when he got in the way ;D.
Requiem. Threnody [if the SMN was comfortable enough to summon]. Elegy.
Rinse. Repeat.
But…we were fighting Colibris. So after seeing their food go to waste, the RNGs started asking for Preludes.
Yeah….
My poor little fingers STILL hurt.
No wonder Strawberrie said BRD was not for the weak of heart. That job is tiring…yet a lot of fun. ^^ Still have much love for it.
…damn small hands. Macros have always been a problem for me so my wittle fingers tire easily.
But I liked the feeling of being busy. Constant Chain 5s with no kill pulling in less than 200 exp.
And so I ended the night with level 62. x.x 6k every twenty minutes tends to have that effect on EXP gaps I guess ^^;
—————-
Oh and my new goal is to me killed by every NM in Besieged! lol. I forget when it occured but their was an Undead Swarm sometime…believe it was Monday. Holy crap, lasted for like 40 minutes or something.
Ardeth and I got charmed at one point..

See, Ardeth is a threat…with his punching and kicking, and all about destroying.
I on the other hand…yeah. She charmed me and had me follow her, pulling my staff out when someone first approached her. Then I’d just stand there…
lol, bad choice of bodyguard.
But my recent goal was fulfilled when Medusa sneaked up behind me and one-shot me. SWEETNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can die a happy taru…
And omg, Ghost hax in the Lamia
Oh, and before I forget…
Congrats to Ardeth on his first piece of AF2 from a Dynamis run he did last week! ^^ They allowed him to lot and get his Monk hands!
Congrats to Mephiston and Ardeth [again] for attaining Level 73! You go, boys!
lol “type here”
anyway, u know wut though, i don’t konw if its because FF is a game or what, but people “don’t put themselves in other people’s shoes.” LIke wtf? this game is really not that different from real life socializing. I don’t know if its because its played by a bunch of kids.. but even that, thinking about other’s feeling and such isn’t really that difficult afterall…
sometimes the whm feel bad when he says “my blind wears off”, and was like omg y didn’t you ask for blindna, i was like u hav other important jobs on hand, so i didn’t ask.. i’m those people who…. feel very annoyed if i have status icon, or without a signet sign / protect shell but… i personally, think about others.
ppl really need to start playing the game the way it should be played… and stop being a n00bsauce about these complaints of “i need silena” stuff.. gets annoyed over time!
lol to ur besiege :O u think ur goin get the best screenshot and… they sign your death warrant XD

Ahahah i lol too on “type here” xD
Anyway I agree with you when you say that exp’n bard may be tiring. I am something-near-to-death when i finish that. Nothing to do with easy “cure and random -na or bar- only whm”
When i see 1+ RNG in pt i start crying. Or DRK.
Also i still don’t get why RDM hate refreshing BRDs. I always use my MP to let him/her save his/her mp, or help in /verypanic situations.
…….sight T_T

i’m ok with refreshing bards that uses a lot of mp (brds that play like a whm) but.., some brds are like… LOL I want refresh for the heck of it (170mp/200mp), using my 40mp to refresh his 30mp.. the math doesn’t work out lol ‘-’
tat’s all i hav to say XD

Well… to bring in some melee perspective here…
I understand why you were annoyed and the dumb naggers should have looked at the damned party list and understood why the status effects were lingering. I do not expect a BRD to carry that kind of load, and really at those levels, people need to take those blinders off and start paying attention.
However, to Maiev, I can also understand the knee-jerk “{Silenced}” nofications. I’ve been in too many parties where the WHM does not notice the mob’s TP move on a cone of players (such as the Thief behind the Tank, or the Thief’s TA partner *cough* *cough*) and doesn’t remove the status effects on anyone but the tank.
News flash… A non-silenced, non-blind tank will not kill the mob for the party, resulting in more MP expense and frustration on your part. Haste/buffs on the melees is meaningless if they are whiffing or paralyzed. The need for buffs takes second seat to SE removal, in most cases, in my opinion.
But again, Tari, you were not in a situation where this type of prioritization was even remotely possible. I mean, you were busy keeping the party alive and buffed.
I just feel like some healers are a bit too quick to get pissy with melees when they notify the party of their status effect. Personally, I announce it to explain my performance and warn about TP gain, etc. Not to harass the mages.

OK, i recovered it. Kill my previous comments tari. Please.
Lol of course I would like refresh when I am quickly going under 150MP and keep healing. (I have 300++ MP)
And I agree that it’s poitnless refreshing when I am done with song casting and healings when I can kindly type /heal and wait like all the mages do.
“(brds that play like a whm)” – It’s not “I like to play as WHM”, I just help and make PT faster. Less MP waste for WHM/RDM. Less rest.
I’ve been lot of times with horrible RDMs; last one NEVER use convert in battle and he keeped refreshing himself, causing multiple deaths, not at once but it’s not nice. Not nice for the absence of RaiseII or III.
He even had one staff only . A RDM WITH ONE ELEMENTAL STAFF ONLY ? ahaah what a joke. And it was a DARK staff.
Plus when he was under 20-30 MP he keep using LVL1 BLM’ spells. (Fire I-Damage 1)
I am sick of RDMs lately…..
Oh sorry. I’m a little emo-frustrated-whatev in those days.

Just re-reading through all these posts ^^ Doubt if you’ll read it..but…
That party was just unacceptable. The BRD is usually too busy to do more than toss out a curaga/cure/status ailment removal. The RDM MUST sub WHM if he is going to be the main heal, especially in a place like Onzozo where paralyze and silence reign supreme. Heck all mages should be /WHM to assist as those moves go off very often.
To be fair though on both sides. As a RDM I rarely will refresh a BRD unless they are helping me back up heal (and most of the time it would be a different mage, rather than the BRD). As a BRD I will rarely ask for a refresh, unless I’m dipping further down. For the PLD, however, I can understand his need for silena. Same for the NIN. As the main tanks, PLDs need silena to be able to self-cure and NINs need it to cast their shadows. The other melees can wait…hehehe.
